The Arizona Cardinals have signed punter Andy Lee to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday. Lee’s contract will now run through the 2020 season.
Lee, 35, ranked seventh in the NFL in punting yard average for Arizona last year at 47.3 yards. That was a single-season franchise record.
Against the Houston Texans in Week 11, Lee had six punts inside the 20-yard line, which tied a franchise record.
He had 88 punts on the year.
During his decade-long career with the San Francisco 49ers, Lee was one of the best punters in the NFL. He made the Pro Bowl in 2007, 2009 and 2011 and was first-team All-Pro in 2007, 2011 and 2012.
Lee does the punting in Arizona while Phil Dawson does the kicking. The 43-year-old Dawson was 32-for-40 on field goals last season and his $3.5 million salary expires at the end of next season.
