The Phoenix Suns have reportedly added another assistant, tabbing former New Orleans Pelicans assistant Jamelle McMillan, according to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears.

At the age of 29, McMillan is one of the youngest assistants in the NBA. His father, Nate, is the current head coach of the Indiana Pacers.

Valley sports fans will remember Jamelle as a former guard for the Arizona State Sun Devils. In his 2010-11 senior season, McMillan averaged 7.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

Starting as a director of basketball operations at Drake University following his time in Tempe, McMillan hung around the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team’s practices to help his dad, an assistant, and the team where he could, according to The New Orleans Advocate’s Rod Walker.

After traveling with the team in London, McMillan received a job offer from New Orleans general manager Dell Demps. McMillan spent time as a coaching intern before he was a player development coach. He then served as an assistant coach the past two seasons.

McMillan made his head coaching debut last summer coaching the Pelicans’ summer league team in Las Vegas.

McMillan reportedly joins new Suns head coach Igor Kokoskov’s staff that includes former Bucks interim head coach Joe Prunty, former Magic scout Jason Stoudt and former Kings assistant Corliss Williamson.
