The Phoenix Suns discussed a max contract extension with shooting guard Devin Booker on Tuesday, reports 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.

The two sides had mutual interest on the deal in what was described as a productive meeting and plan to work toward finalizing a deal shortly after the conclusion of the moratorium on Friday.

Booker is eligible to sign a five-year, $158 million deal. He and his agent met with Suns owner Robert Sarver, general manager Ryan McDonough and president of basketball operations James Jones on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Booker averaged 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game last season, making him one of nine players in the league and the youngest to average at least 24 points, four rebounds and four assists a night.

One of the best young players in the NBA and a rising star, Booker has become the face of the franchise in Phoenix despite only three years of experience in the league.

Along with Booker, the Suns have a promising young core that includes this year’s No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton, Josh Jackson and Mikal Bridges.
