The Phoenix Suns and Devin Booker have scheduled a meeting to discuss a contract extension, 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro confirmed.

On Tuesday, Booker and his agent Leon Rose will meet with Suns owner Robert Sarver, general manager Ryan McDonough and vice president of basketball operations James Jones. Booker could potentially be offered a max extension worth $157 million over five years.

After making $3.3 million next season, Booker’s salary would jump to $27 million in 2019-20.

Booker is the cornerstone of the Suns’ rebuilding process. Last year, his third as a professional, he averaged 24.9 points, 4.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game as one of nine players in the league to record those numbers.

After Phoenix took notice of the young player as a rookie, Booker jumped into the national spotlight when he scored 70 points against the Boston Celtics as a second-year player. In his third year, despite consistently facing double-teams as the Suns’ primary threat, he put up career-best numbers in an efficient manner.

If he and the Suns agree to a long-term contract, it would set up the team with a long-term core of Booker, second-year Josh Jackson and rookie Deandre Ayton trying to compete in the Western Conference.
