The start of NBA Summer League is almost here, as teams from around the association have submitted their final rosters.
Both Arizona and Arizona State will be represented by former players this year, headlined by Phoenix Suns No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton.
Ayton will get his first taste of NBA action with the Suns on Friday, as he and the team take on the Dallas Mavericks.
Joining Ayton in summer league will be former Arizona guards Rawle Alkins and Allonzo Trier.
Alkins was an early-draft entry after completing his sophomore season in Tucson, averaging 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The 6-foot-5 guard was projected to be a second-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. But after going undrafted, he landed a summer league spot with the Toronto Raptors.
Trier left school after his junior season, in which he was the Wildcats’ second-leading scorer behind only Ayton. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 18.1 points, 3.2 asssits and 3.0 rebounds for Arizona last season.
In similar fashion, Trier went undrafted, but was able to land a summer league spot with the New York Knicks.
As for Bobby Hurley and Arizona State, guard Shannon Evans will be representing the Sun Devils in NBA Summer League.
As a senior, Evans — combined with other key contributers — formed a high-energy offense dubbed “Guard U” at Arizona State.
The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game, second behind only fellow guard Tra Holder in scoring for the Sun Devils.
Evans joins the Houston Rockets in Summer League.
