Former Arizona guard Allonzo Trier is happy to be on a Las Vegas Summer League roster with the New York Knicks but shocked that he wasn’t selected in the 2018 NBA Draft.

“I definitely believe I belong in this league and I can play and I’m as good as all these guys who were drafted. But that’s done and over with in the past. I’m looking forward to this opportunity here to take advantage of it,” Trier said, according to the New York Post.

Trier was the second leading scorer on the Wildcats last season averaging 18.1 points per game, behind the Phoenix Suns’ No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton.

One of the biggest knocks on Trier were his failed drug tests, which led to an 18-game suspension his sophomore year. A second failed test the following year was determined to be from trace amounts left from the original ingestion.

The Kincks have a crowded backcourt in addition to Trier. Emmanuel Mudiay, Trey Burke, Ron Baker, Courtney Lee, Frank Ntilikina and Tim Hardaway Jr. fill up the depth chart for the Knicks at the guard positions. But from that group, only Ntilikina will be on the Knicks’ Summer League roster.

Trier’s first Summer League appearance will likely come Saturday as the Knicks take on the Atlanta Hawks.
