The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated veteran reliever Randall Delgado from the 60-day disabled list on Friday and designated fellow right-hander Fernando Salas for assignment.
Delgado has yet to appear for the D-backs this season due to a strained left oblique. During his time off — he hasn’t pitched in MLB since July 15, 2017 — the 28-year-old also dealt with a shoulder injury.
In 11 rehab appearances with Single-A Visalia and Triple-A Reno, Delgado went 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA. Opponents hit .175 with 13 strikeouts against him, scoring three earned runs over 11.1 innings pitched.
Delgado recorded a 3.59 ERA in 26 games for the D-backs last season, starting five games and allowing six home runs while striking out 60 batters over 62.2 innings. His 1.18 WHIP was a career low.
The 33-year-old Salas signed with Arizona on a minor-league deal this past offseason and won a roster spot with a strong spring.
The nine-year MLB veteran went 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA for the Diamondbacks this season.
