The Opening Finals is one of the most elite competitions in high school football, where the best recruits from across the country come together to compete.

This year’s finals included Phoenix-native and Pinnacle High School quarterback Spencer Rattler, who has already been named one of the top players in the country for the 2019 recruiting class.

But now, Rattler has garnered even more accolades.

According to 247 Sports, Rattler was the top quarterback at The Opening, beating out Bo Nix — an Auburn commit.

After leading his team to the seven-on-seven title, Oklahoma commit Spencer Rattler earned ‘Alpha Dog’ honors of the quarterback group. Rattler ended the week with 16 touchdowns to just three interceptions, and completed 103 of 138 passes.

Despite having a slight build, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Rattler has an electric arm and an ultra-quick release. You watch Rattler interact with his teammates and opponents on the field, and you can tell he’s extremely confident and competitive.

Before leading his team to the seven-on-seven title at The Opening, Rattler made a name for himself here in Arizona.

Bursting onto the high school football scene as a freshman for the Pioneers, Rattler started at the varsity level and quickly made a name for himself while competing against some of Arizona’s most talented schools.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder threw for 2,381 yards and 19 touchdowns his first season, adding 189 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

As a sophomore, Rattler threw for 2,893 yards and 29 touchdowns, adding five more on the ground to go along with 462 yards.

He immediately started getting attention from powerhouse colleges, including Oklahoma, where he committed just before his junior season.

The commitment didn’t slow Rattler down.

Last season while leading Pinnacle to a semi-final appearance in the toughest division in Arizona, Rattler threw for 3,946 yards and 45 touchdowns. His 64.9 completion percentage allowed him to receive a quarterback rating of 127, according to MaxPreps.

Aside from his accolades on the gridiron, Rattler has also gotten attention on the hardwood.

Rattler averaged 13.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for the Pinnacle basketball program, which captured the state championship this past season.
