Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans made a five-figure donation to a family in Florida after their father was shot and killed by two sheriff’s deputies in 2014.
The family was awarded only $4 following a jury decision in the case ruling in favor of the police.
The jury awarded $1 for the funeral of the father killed, Greg Hill, and $1 for each of Hill’s three surviving children.
When Evans found out about the story he asked on Twitter if there was a way to help. The response from the public was prompt, and sooner rather than later Evans made an $11,000 donation to the family’s GoFundMe page.

The donation pushed the fundraising effort to nearly $100,000, closer to the page goal of $150,000.
This is not the first time Evans has made a large donation to someone in need. Evans donated $10,000 to a childhood friend, Devyn Holmes, who was accidentally shot in the head in April.
Evans signed a five-year extension this spring worth $82 million dollars.
“I just want to help a lot of people and have fun along the way,” Evans told the media at the press conference following the signing.
