The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed third baseman Jake Lamb on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder contusion, the team announced Friday.

Lamb was removed from a game Thursday against the Cubs and was expected to have an MRI when the D-backs arrived in San Diego for the next portion of their road trip.

In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled infielder Ildemaro Vargas and made room on the 40-man roster by designating Jack Reinheimer for assignment.

The news comes on the same day that the D-backs acquired infielder Eduardo Escobar — who primarily plays third base and is a switch hitter — from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for three minor league players: right-handed pitcher Jhoan Duran, outfielder Ernie De La Trinidad and outfielder Gabriel Maciel.

Lamb has hit .222 this season with six home runs and 31 RBI with a .655 OPS in 56 games. He hit .188 in the month of July and .170 all season against left-handed pitching.
