Familiarity will help Skelton if called upon

Nov 3, 2011, 1:57 AM | Updated: 4:41 pm

With Kevin Kolb still battling turf-toe and sitting out of
practice, the likelihood of backup John Skelton starting
on Sunday seems to be growing.

If that is the case for the Cardinals, they will at least
bring in a backup who already has some experience within
the offensive system.

“He played well for us down the stretch last year when he
got his opportunity and he can make all the throws,” wide
receiver Larry Fitzgerald said.

Skelton started four games as a rookie last year, winning
two games and throwing for two touchdowns and two
interceptions.

Experience is key at the quarterback position and head
coach Ken Whisenhunt believes Skelton has grown since last
year.

“I think it helps from his perspective, being more
comfortable,” Whisenhunt said. “I know the guys in the
huddle are probably more comfortable with him from the way
he calls the plays and handles the situation.”

If Skelton does get the start, the Cardinals will be ready
for him.

“I think guys are comfortable with him, we understand who
he is, what his strengths are and we know that we have to
go out there and play better ourselves,” Fitzgerald said.
