At the end of the weekend, four undrafted rookies secured spots on the Arizona Cardinals 53-man roster.

One of them was linebacker Dennis Gardeck of Division II University of Sioux Falls.

“It was pretty gratifying, but on the same token nothing is solidified yet and nothing is guaranteed in this league ever,” Gardeck said Monday.

The “nothing is guaranteed” attitude Gardeck adopted surely helped him stand out during training camp.

Another thing that might have helped Gardeck stand out was his hair. Gardeck’s hair is long and blonde, with similar volume to that of the Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews.

The attitude and hair led to Ron Wolfley of Doug & Wolf show on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station to nickname Gardeck “The Barbarian.”

“You can’t be civilized and be called ‘The Barbarian’ so I had to let it out a little bit for him,” Gardeck said.

“I just kind of always like to keep it different with the hair.”

Gardeck seems to have embraced the nickname and even changed the name of his Twitter account to Gardeck the Barbarian.

Check out some of “The Barbarian’s” hairdos over the years below.
