The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled infielder Ildemaro Vargas and reliever Matt Andriese on Tuesday while placing starter Zack Godley on the paternity leave list.

Vargas played 12 games with Arizona in 2017 but hasn’t appeared for the MLB club this year. He went 4-for-13 (.308) with a double, four RBI and three strikeouts during that span.

This year with Triple-A Reno, the 27-year-old recorded a team-record of 35 games with a hit from June 24 to Aug. 11. He’s batting .311 with 31 doubles, 10 triples, seven home runs, 54 RBIs and 78 runs scored for Reno.

Andriese was optioned to Single-A Visalia a week ago. The D-backs wanted to stretch the reliever out but only had one game to do so, pitching Andriese last Friday. He finished having allowed a hit, two walks and no runs scored with five strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.

Andriese has made nine appearances with Arizona since being acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on July 25. He’s posted a 4.15 ERA, having allowed 14 hits, six earned runs and five home runs in 13.0 innings.

Andriese allowed a home run in each of his last two outings, on Aug. 17 against the San Diego Padres and on Aug. 24 against the Seattle Mariners.

Godley (14-8, 4.51 ERA) was expected to return home for the birth of his first child. He pitched Monday in a 6-2 loss to the San Diego Padres and was slotted to appear next on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves.
