When Arizona State takes on San Diego State this upcoming Saturday, the Sun Devils might be without safety Dasmond Tautalatasi.

The defensive back was injured during a second quarter interception return against Michigan State. Tautalatasi intercepted the pass in the endzone but decided to return the pick instead of kneeling for a touchback.

“Then I’m mad at him because he comes out of the endzone and that’s when he hurt his elbow,” ASU head coach Herm Edwards said. “I’m teasing, great play, I’m messing with him.”

Nonetheless, the junior was seen in a sling after the game, according to Sun Devil Source.

Edwards noted that Tautalatasi was one of 25 players to see action on defense, but he was one of the team’s most experienced defensive backs and finished No. 12 on the team in tackles last season.

Tautalatasi’s absence could thin the Sun Devils’ personnel at a position already hit with the injury bug when Tyler Whiley went down in a team scrimmage before the season started.

He ranks No. 12 on the team in tackles in 2018, is one of only two players with an interception and has one pass deflection.
