The Arizona Coyotes announced Monday that four players had been removed from the team’s NHL training camp roster and assigned to the Tucson Roadrunners.

Forward Michael Bunting and defensemen Cam Dineen, Dysin Mayo and Dakota Mermis all were cut and sent to the team’s AHL affiliate.

There are now 39 players remaining in camp.

It was the third of a series of roster cuts by the Coyotes as training camp has progressed. The first time, the Coyotes reduced their roster from 63 to 49. Then, on Sunday, Arizona cut six players to bring the roster to 43.

Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet said last week that he wanted to pare down his group to a full team for the final two preseason games, though didn’t say specifically if that meant there would only be 23 players left in camp at that point. They will have to get to that number by the start of the regular season, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 4 with a road game in Dallas.

Arizona’s home opener is on Saturday, Oct. 6, against Anaheim.
