Shawn Marion is too big for a Hobbit hole

Oct 23, 2018, 10:50 AM

Hobbits are a fictional humanoid race from the J.R.R. Tolkien novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. They’re small.

But being of the imagination, how small are they? We can only assume that the movie adaptations of the novels accurately depicted Hobbit size, and in those movies, some Hobbit holes in New Zealand were used as a set.

So here’s large NBA man Shawn Marion standing inside a Hobbit hole, courtesy of his Instagram account.

Yeah. Shawn Marion is 6-foot-7, which actually makes it look like average-sized humans could just fit in the door there.

Anyway, here’s Marion posing in front of the three Hobbit holes infamously set in The Shire, which is in the central west region of Eriador and of Middle Earth.

Why is Shawn Marion, former Phoenix Suns great, here?

According to his Instagram account, he’s read the books and seen all The Lord of the Rings films. And since he’s a co-owner of a National Basketball League club, the New Zealand Breakers, it’s a reasonable getaway to check out the set of the movies.
