The Arizona Cardinals promoted rookie cornerback Chris Jones from their practice squad on Tuesday after releasing starter Jamar Taylor, the team announced.

The news had been reported earlier in the day by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Cardinals made a series of other roster moves on Tuesday as well, making Taylor’s release official, releasing defensive end Vontarrius Dora, elevating wide receiver Jalen Tolliver to the active roster, re-signing cornerback David Amerson and signing former Sun Devils kicker Zane Gonzalez to the practice squad.

Jones had been on Arizona’s practice squad since the start of the regular season. He spent training camp with the Detroit Lions after going undrafted out of Nebraska.

The 23-year-old defensive back stands 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. He recorded 76 tackles, 2.0 sacks and five interceptions with 16 passes defensed in four years as a Cornhusker.

Taylor was released by the Cardinals after losing his starting job three weeks into this season. Last Sunday, he allowed the first score of the game after getting beat on a double-move by Oakland Raiders tight end Jared Cook in the opening minutes of what became a 23-21 Arizona loss at State Farm Stadium.

Drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the second round in the 2013 NFL Draft, Taylor played in 10 games for the Cardinals this year. He has recorded one pass defensed and 17 tackles, none for a loss.

Before this season and his two-year stint with the Browns, Taylor played three campaigns with the Dolphins. He started nine games there, appearing in 33 total.

Taylor, 28, was traded to Arizona from the Cleveland Browns in May for a 2019 sixth-round pick.
