Aerial attack works for Tate and Wilkins early in Territorial Cup

Nov 24, 2018, 2:33 PM | Updated: 7:17 pm

Coming into the Territorial Cup with the Pac-12’s worst completion percentage among starting quarterbacks didn’t seem to matter to Arizona’s Khalil Tate.

The explosive junior, known for setting the single-game rushing record by a quarterback in 2017, used his arm to help the Arizona offense get out to a 10-7 first quarter lead against Arizona State.

Tate racked up 130 yards passing with one touchdown in the first quarter, including a 47-yard pass to Shawn Poindexter.

Poindexter would find the endzone later in the second quarter leaping over ASU defender Kobe Williams in the endzone.

Both teams came into the match up allowing more than 230 passing yards per game and both teams took advantage early.

ASU quarterback Manny Wilkins also tossed a long TD strike early in the game against the Arizona defense.

With 17 combined points by both teams in the first quarter, it looks like we could be in the midst of a barn-burner in Tucson this afternoon.
