Flames coach takes puck to face in Coyotes game, returns with stitches

They say hockey players are tough. That includes coaches, too.

During the Arizona Coyotes vs. Calgary Flames day game at Gila River Arena on Sunday, Flames coach Bill Peters was standing behind his team’s bench when a rogue puck flew into the bench area. It hit Peters square on the face, and he was down for a moment.

After some delay, he was escorted down the tunnel, and it appeared that Flames assistant Martin Gelinas had taken over, per Flames reporter Kristen Anderson.

Peters’ exit didn’t last the entire game.

About half an hour after the incident, Peters was already back on the bench with a stitched wound visible on the side of his face.

Peters is coaching his first season with the Calgary Flames after his departure from the Carolina Hurricanes, where he coached for four seasons.
