Arizona Sports NFL Power Rankings Week 16: Saints elevate

It’s mid-December, and defense has made a return to the NFL.

After some wild nationally-televised games in recent weeks, the offensive fireworks that highlighted play have been replaced by some good, old-fashioned low-scoring games.

The New Orleans Saints have been on both sides of things. They’re second in league with 459 points scored, but proved they could win a knuckle-dragger, too, Monday night when they beat the Carolina Panthers 12-9 in Charlotte. With that win, and Kansas City’s loss to the Chargers, Drew Brees and company have moved back into the top spot in this week’s Arizona Sports NFL Power Rankings.

Speaking of the Chargers, they’ve elevated all the way up to No. 2 after their gutsy win at Arrowhead.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Arizona Cardinals suffered their fourth loss by 25 or more points this season and stay in the 32nd spot, only because they can’t go any lower.

Here’s a look at this week’s order:

9. Pittsburgh Steelers 8-5-1 beat New England 17-10 (▲3) Jaylen Samuels in for James Connor, Steelers keep on running the ball.
10. Tennessee Titans 8-6 beat NY Giants 17-0 (▲4) Derrick Henry has nearly doubled his yardage and touchdowns totals in just the last two weeks.
11. Baltimore Ravens 8-6 beat Tampa Bay 20-12 (–) Since taking over as starter, Lamar Jackson is the fifth-leading rusher in the league.
12. Dallas Cowboys 8-6 lost to Indianapolis 23-0 (▼5) Manhandled in Indy.
13. Seattle Seahawks 8-6 lost to San Francisco 26-23 (OT) (▼4) Seahawks set new team record with 148 yards in penalties.
