Arizona Cardinals’ Patrick Peterson selected to 2019 Pro Bowl

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson still doesn’t know what it’s like to play a season in the NFL without a Pro Bowl nod.

Peterson is headed to a franchise record eighth Pro Bowl in as many seasons, the NFL announced Tuesday.

The cornerback has recorded two interceptions, five pass breakups and two tackles for loss in 14 games this season.

Peterson joins Hall of Fame running backs Jim Brown and Barry Sanders as the only players in NFL history to be named to the Pro Bowl eight times before turning 29 years old.

The 28-year-old is the Cardinals’ only 2019 Pro Bowl selection.

Last season, four Cardinals — Peterson, Chandler Jones, Larry Fitzgerald and Budda Baker — were named Pro Bowlers but the team’s 3-11 record hasn’t afforded for much strong play.

Jones, Fitzgerald and Baker are all alternates this season.

It’s surprising Jones wasn’t selected to the team.

Jones, 28, has been arguably the Cardinals’ best defensive player this season.

He has recorded 12 sacks in 14 games, including a season-high two sacks in the Cardinals’ loss to Oakland last month.

In 2017, Jones set career highs in sacks, tackles for loss and quarterback hits.

The 2019 Pro Bowl will be played on Jan. 27 in Orlando.
