Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald tweets his appreciation for Steve Wilks

Dec 31, 2018, 12:12 PM

Arizona Cardinals receiver and future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald tweeted his support for coach Steve Wilks following the first-year leader’s firing on Monday.

“Endless respect for Coach Wilks…appreciate his dedication to this team and the respect he showed for every man who played for him,” Fitzgerald wrote. “Thank you for everything you did and wishing you nothing but success in what will be a long, fruitful career in this league.”

Fitzgerald — like the rest of the Cardinals — got just one season under Wilks, who was let go on Monday morning the day after the team finished its 3-13 regular season. Fitzgerald had four catches for 36 yards and a touchdown on Sunday in the Cardinals’ 27-24 loss at Seattle.

Some have speculated that the loss Sunday could be the last game of Fitzgerald’s career, though the veteran wide receiver said he had yet to decide on whether that was the case. Regardless, Fitzgerald played for the fourth head coach of his NFL career, joining Bruce Arians, Ken Whisenhunt and Dennis Green.

In Fitzgerald’s season with Wilks, the veteran receiver had the fewest receiving yards of his career with 734. His 69 catches on the season were tied for the third-fewest in his 15-year career.
