DeAndre Hopkins to donate playoff check to family of slain girl

Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has taken it upon himself to help those in need in the city of Houston.

On Thursday, Hopkins tweeted that he will be donating his playoff game check to the family of Jazmine Barnes.

Barnes was a 7-year-old second-grader that was shot and killed early Sunday morning in a drive-by shooting.

Hopkins is scheduled to make $29,000 for Saturday’s Wild Card playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The money will be going toward funeral costs and the search for the perpetrator.

According to the Huffington Post, there is a $100,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the unidentified gunman.

Hopkins isn’t the only member of the Texans that has given back to the community.

Last summer, defensive end J.J. Watt helped raise over $37 million in an effort to ease the pain and recovery process of those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
