Arizona State defensive line coach Shaun Nua will be leaving Herm Edwards’ staff to hold the same title at Michigan, reports SunDevilSource.com’s Chris Karpman.
After spending six seasons as a defensive line coach at Navy, Nua joined the ASU coaching staff in 2018 in the same role.
Nua played for four years at BYU before he was drafted in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2005 and went on to spend four seasons in the NFL.
The Sun Devils’ defensive line from 2018 will mostly be returning. Starting senior nose tackle Renell Wren is on the way out but freshman Tyler Johnson, freshman Jermayne Lole and junior Darius Slade are set to be back.
Johnson had 38 total tackles and four sacks in his debut season while Lole added 27 total tackles and three sacks. He’s not on the defensive line, but freshman linebacker Merlin Robertson will also be back after posting a team-high 77 tackles and five sacks. Robertson was named Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year.
