Wilmer Flores officially signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, agreeing to a one-year contract with a team option for 2020, the team announced.

In order to make room for Flores on the 40-man roster, the D-backs also announced that pitcher Jared Miller would be designated for assignment.

Flores has spent his entire career in the New York Mets organization, including the last six seasons in the majors.

The Venezuelan native has a career batting average of .262 to go with 68 homers and 253 RBI.

He led the major leagues with four walk-off RBI in 2018.

Flores is remembered for a trade that never happened.

In 2015, the Mets had apparently swung a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers for Carlos Gomez that involved Flores.

News of the deal started to circulate through the stadium as the Mets were playing against the San Diego Padres and as fans gave an ovation for Flores, he could be seen wiping away tears from his position at shortstop.

Flores is known as a versatile infielder having played at least 100 games at each of the four infield positions.

Miller split time between Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Reno last season in the D-backs organization. He had 59 strikeouts in 44 appearances in the minors last season.
