Trivia Tuesday: How well do you remember non-NFL football teams?
Feb 12, 2019, 6:00 AM
The Alliance of American Football (AAF) got underway over the weekend, becoming the latest springtime alternative to the NFL.
Eight teams, including our own Arizona Hotshots, took to gridirons around the country Saturday and Sunday.
It sent the crack staff here at ArizonaSports.com down memory lane. Of course, this is not the first new league to pop up over the last 35 years or so. The United States Football League (USFL) cranked things up in 1983 with 12 teams. Four years later, things moved indoors when the Arena Football League got started with four teams.
In 1991, the World League of American Football became the closest thing to global football with 10 teams in three countries on two continents. That league would later be taken over by the NFL and was known as NFL Europe.
And who could forget Vince McMahon’s ill-fated XFL, which invaded American television screens (briefly) for a one-year run in 2001?
That’s your challenge this week — match the original cities in these four leagues to their official team names.
You’ve got eight minutes. Good luck — this one is admittedly tough!
