Scoring a league-high 38 points against Eastern New Mexico Wednesday helped propel Grand Canyon’s Michael Finke to WAC Player of the Week honors.
His 38 points were not only the high mark for any WAC player this season, it was the second-highest scoring output for a GCU player since the school made the switch to Division I.
Finke’s career night proceeded a 26-point showing on Saturday as he helped rally the Antelopes from a nine-point deficit scoring 24 of those 26 in the second half.
In that game, he also finished with 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and fourth of his career.
Finke and the Antelopes have two games left in the regular season schedule, against Utah Valley and Seattle, before the start of the WAC Tournament.
Last season, GCU finished third in the WAC regular season and made it to the conference championship game before falling to New Mexico State.
This year they are poised for a similar strong finish with the game remaining against Utah Valley that could determine who earns the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. Both teams are tied with identical 10-4 records in WAC play.
