The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Tuesday a series of roster moves that reduced their major league spring training roster by 14 players.

The moves left 47 active players left in camp, and the team must eventually reach a roster of 25 with which it will enter the regular season.

The team optioned right-handed pitchers Taylor Clarke and Joel Payamps and infielders Kevin Cron and Domingo Leyba to Triple-A Reno. Right-handed pitchers Bo Takahashi and Emilio Vargas were optioned to Double-A Jackson.

The following eight players were reassigned to minor league camp: Right-handed pitchers Ryan Atkinson, Jon Duplantier, Kevin Ginkel and Taylor Widener; infielders Jazz Chisholm, Wyatt Mathisen and Andy Young; and catcher Daulton Varsho.

Perhaps the most notable name of the cuts is Duplantier, the team’s No. 2 overall prospect and top pitching propsect. Duplantier was 5-1 with a 2.55 ERA between Rookie ball and Double-A last season, but appeared in only 16 games (all starts) for 74.0 innings pitched.

Chisholm is the D-backs’ top prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 59 prospect in all of baseball. He hit .272 with 25 home runs and 70 RBI last season between Single-A and Class A Advanced.

The D-backs will open their regular season on the road on March 28 in Los Angeles and play their final Cactus League game on March 24. They’ll play two exhibition games at Chase Field against the White Sox on March 25 and 26.
