Comparing 5-foot-10 and 1/8 inches Oklahoma quarterback prospect Kyler Murray to small stature quarterbacks such as Russell Wilson, Doug Flutie and Baker Mayfield has been a common theme leading up to the 2019 NFL Draft.

While each of those three players have enjoyed a measure of success in the NFL, Arizona Cardinals radio play-by-play commentator Dave Pasch crossed sport lines to draw a comparison to NBA Champion and former MVP, Steph Curry.

“Steph Curry changed the game. Steph Curry came into the NBA and was a guy like Kyler Murray where I think people weren’t sure about him because of his height and his size. Then all of a sudden he’s doing things now that kids in the park are doing,” Pasch said.

Pasch also works as a basketball play-by-play commentator for ESPN and has been able to enjoy many of Curry’s games with Golden State Warriors courtside throughout his career.

“If you were going to make that comparison and say Kyler Murray could be Steph Curry, a guy that’s a winning player,” Pasch said. “Kyler Murray has only been a winner his entire life.”

Murray’s draft stock rose in the College Football Playoff when he led the Sooners back from a 21-0 first quarter deficit against Alabama, helping the Oklahoma outscore the Crimson Tide 24-14 in the second half.

He also led Allen High School in Texas to three consecutive undefeated state championship seasons.

With all of that said, there is still a high level of uncertainty surrounding the No. 1 overall pick. But Pasch thinks his playmaking ability will be too tantalizing to bypass.

“Because he can do things that not a lot of other people at his position can do, you’re talking about a guy who could possibly change the game,” Pasch said.

“That’s why I think – again I don’t know – but I think the Cardinals are saying, ‘man he is just too good to pass up, we will regret it if we don’t pull the trigger,'” Pasch said.
