Vegas sportsbook projects Phoenix Suns to win 42.5 games

The Phoenix Suns won 48 games last season, barely missing the playoffs after posting one of the best single-season turnarounds in league history.

In the offseason, the team added veterans Isaiah Thomas and Anthony Tolliver, as well as rookies T.J. Warren, Tyler Ennis and Zoran Dragic to the roster.

At the same time, the team also lost forward Channing Frye to the Orlando Magic, as well as guards Leandro Barbosa and Ish Smith.

Conventional wisdom would say what the Suns brought in, the natural improvement from some of the team’s younger players and improved health from Eric Bledsoe, who missed 39 games last season due to injuries, would lead to an even better campaign in 2014-15.

But the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas begs to differ, as it has projected the Suns to win 42.5 games.

Really?

If they are right, the Suns would once again miss out on the postseason. The Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, L.A. Clippers, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies and Portland Trail Blazers are all predicted to have higher win totals, placing Phoenix ninth in the West.

Maybe the SportsBook will be right and the Suns are destined for a substantial dip. Or, perhaps they are going to be wrong once again. Remember, most had the Suns finishing with a win total in the low-20s last season.

Either way, we’ll find out soon enough, as the regular season opener is Oct. 29 at home against the Los Angeles Lakers.
