Suns rookie T.J. Warren out indefinitely

Oct 23, 2014, 5:07 PM | Updated: 5:08 pm

T.J. Warren, the first of the Phoenix Suns’ three 2014 first-round draft picks, is out indefinitely with a small crack in a bone in his left thumb.

The small forward was a late scratch for the Suns’ game against the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night. Warren was averaging 5 points and 2.4 rebounds while playing 12.2 minutes per game during his five preseason appearances.

Warren was a standout during the Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 17.8 points in 24.8 minutes per game and shot 54.4 percent from the field in five games.

There is no timetable for Warren’s return and the rookie will be treated with a splint and rest for the injury.

Warren was taken 14th overall in the 2014 NBA draft by the Suns after two years at North Carolina State. The 21-year-old was a second-team consensus All-American in 2014 and ranked third in the NCAA in scoring, averaging 24.9 points per game.
