Unlike last year, the Phoenix Suns came into Wednesday’s season opener with expectations to fulfill. If one game is any indication, the Suns may have a special season in store.

Yes they beat the lowly Los Angeles Lakers who were playing their second game in as many nights, but Phoenix did what they were supposed to do in that situation — win big.

A decisive 119-99 home victory on Wednesday night is a positive start to the 2014-15 season. Phoenix overcame a 31-point performance from Kobe Bryant to earn the 20-point victory.

Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Morris led the way for the Suns, combining to score 44 points.

Here’s a look at the Suns’ opening night victory by the numbers:

2nd

The Suns won their second consecutive season opener on Wednesday after losing their previous three.

Phoenix pulled away for good during the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 39-23 and taking a commanding 98-73 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Twelve different Suns played at least nine minutes in Wednesday’s game. Tyler Ennis made his NBA debut during the second half and played 12:30.

50%

The Suns were on fire from behind the arc, knocking down 50 percent of their three-pointers. Marcus Morris (5-of-9) and Isaiah Thomas (5-of-7) led the way from downtown.
