Isaiah Thomas, Phoenix Suns rally past Spurs, go to 2-0: By the Numbers

Nov 1, 2014, 4:47 AM | Updated: 8:09 am

Isaiah Thomas sure looks good in a Phoenix Suns uniform.

Two days after scoring a team-high 23 points off the bench in the Suns’ 20-point win over the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix’s top 2014 free-agent acquisition dropped another 23 in Friday night’s come-from-behind win over the San Antonio Spurs.

Thomas has scored 46 points in his first 49 minutes in a Suns uniform, shooting 67.9 percent (19-of-28) from the floor. He scored 10 points in the fourth quarter Friday to help the Suns rally from a six-point deficit with less than six minutes to play.

The Spurs led 24-11 at the end of the first quarter and 45-36 at halftime, but Thomas and forward Markieff Morris (20 points, 11 rebounds) ensured San Antonio never pulled away.

Here’s how the Suns improved to 2-0 and rallied past the defending champs at home on Halloween, by the numbers:

2

Any time you can beat the defending world champs while making just two 3-pointers, you’ll take it. After connecting on 16-of-32 3-point attempts in Wednesday’s win over the Lakers, the Suns went just 2-of-18 (11.1 percent) from beyond the arc Friday.

3:33

The Suns didn’t have the lead much Friday, but they led when it mattered. Phoenix took its first advantage of the game, 88-87, on a Thomas layup with 3:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was a lead the Suns didn’t relinquish.

5

Along with their advantage on the scoreboard for most of the night, the Spurs out-rebounded the Suns for much of the game. But thanks to center Alex Len and Markieff Morris, the Suns wound up out-rebounding the Spurs by five boards (50 to 45) for the game.

6

It was another team effort for the Suns, who had six players score in double figures for the second straight game.

7

The Suns averaged 15 turnovers per game last season and had 14 giveaways in their win over the Lakers, but they turned the ball over just seven times Friday night.

10

Len scored all of his career-high 10 points in the first-half of Friday’s win. The oft-injured 21-year-old had his first career double-double thanks to his 11 rebounds in 32 minutes off the bench.

20

The Suns overcame an awful shooting night from guard Eric Bledsoe, who was just 3-of-15 (20 percent) from the field. Bledsoe did contribute nine rebounds and three assists, and he connected on all five of his free-throw attempts.
