The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres have agreed to play a series in Mexico City in 2020, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported Monday.

Nightengale added that an announcement was expected to occur on Wednesday.

The series would continue a league-wide trend of international play, as well as a D-backs trend of playing south of the border. The D-backs played two spring training games in Monterrey this year against the Rockies, which marked a league-high 11th time Arizona had played in Mexico.

The D-backs have previously played the Brewers (1998 and 1999), the Angels (2000), the Athletics (2001), the Padres (2002), the Royals (2003), the White Sox (2008), Team Mexico (2009) and the Rockies (2010 and 2015) in Hermosillo, Sonora in spring training. The D-backs also went to Australia to open the 2014 MLB regular season and play the Dodgers.

This year, as part of MLB’s Mexico Series, two different sets of teams went to Monterrey for regular season baseball: the Cardinals and Reds on April 13 and 14, and the Astros and Angels on May 4 and 5.

In addition to Mexico and Australia, MLB has also played games in Japan and Puerto Rico and is slated to have the Yankees and Red Sox play one another in London next month.
