Cardinals quarterback controversy just won’t go away

Dec 19, 2011, 9:21 PM | Updated: Dec 20, 2011, 12:54 am

Of the Arizona Cardinals’ seven wins this season, John
Skelton has been the quarterback of note in five of them.

Skelton’s lone loss came November 20th at San Francisco, a
game where he completed just 6 of 19 passes for 99 yards
and three interceptions.

Since then the second-year pro has completed 59 of 97
passes for 709 yards, with four touchdowns against five
interceptions.

While not great, Skelton has gotten better, and the
Cardinals keep winning. So that begs the question:
assuming both Skelton and Kevin Kolb are healthy, who is
the team’s starter?

“I think we’ve always been fair about trying to put our
team in the best position to win and playing the best
players, no matter what,” Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt
said.

Whisenhunt is the type of coach who does not want to see a
player lose his job due to injury, saying that it’s tough
to leave a guy who was playing well on the bench once he’s
healthy.

“You always want to give him his opportunity to come back
and get his position back,” he said. “I don’t think it’s
fair.”

However, like Skelton, Kolb was not exactly playing at a
high level when he went down.
