Chun An Yu, a junior at Arizona State, has qualified for the 2019 U.S. Open after winning the 2019 U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying in southern California on Monday.

Yu began the first round at Newport Beach Country Club where he went seven-under 64 with six birdies and an eagle. The next round was played at Big Canyon Country Club where he posted five-under 67 with another six birdies and an eagle.

The field consisted of 99 players and only five made the cut to play at the U.S. Open.

A week ago, Yu placed third at the 2019 NCAA Championships capping off a successful junior year that included eight top-five finishes in the eleven events with an average score of 69.20.

Yu’s stellar play this season even earned him PING First-Team All-American honors. Only 10 players were selected as First-Team All-American.

Before he plays at the U.S. Open, he will be at the Arnold Palmer Cup in Nebraska this weekend.

The 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach will be held June 13-16.
