ESPN NFL analyst: Skelton has bright future but start Kolb now

John Skelton may not be the quarterback of the future for
the Arizona Cardinals. In fact, he may not even be the
quarterback of the present, assuming Kevin Kolb returns to
the field sometime in the next two games.

However, Skelton has shown promise over the course of his
first two NFL seasons, and ESPN NFL analyst Ron Jaworski
says the 23-year-old has a bright future ahead of him.

“He’s a big, strong guy in the pocket and ‘barn strong,'”
Jaworski told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo.
“Doesn’t always have the proper mechanics and feet
right…but when the ball comes out of his hand, it has
velocity and, for the most part, good accuracy.”

Jaworski said the downside to Skelton is his being
streaky, but that it’s to be expected with a young
quarterback.

Still, Jaworski said he would not give the starting job to
Skelton right now, provided Kolb is healthy enough to
return to the field.

“My basic philosophy is you don’t lose your job due to
injury, and I would start Kevin Kolb,” he said.

However, Jaworski said he’s glad he doesn’t have to make a
decision on the issue.

And, ultimately, having two good options to choose from at
QB isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
