D-backs’ Zack Greinke: No-hitter would probably be a ‘hassle’

Zack Greinke was really, really good on Thursday.

How inconvenient.

The Diamondbacks’ ace isn’t known for drawing attention on himself, frequently showing traits of an introvert and marching to the beat of his own drum. So it shouldn’t come as much surprise — as hilarious as it may be — that Greinke, after taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning, told reporters that it would probably just be a bother to throw a no-hitter.

“I don’t really think about (no-hitters) that much,” he said, as quoted in an Associated Press story. “I just assume I’ll never throw one.

“Just probably be more hassle than anything.”

Greinke, who won the AL Cy Young Award in 2009 and nearly won it again in the NL in 2015, improved his ERA to 2.65 on the season Thursday after going 7.1 shutout innings with no walks, two hits and three strikeouts. His no-hit bid ended when Trea Turner singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh.

The last D-backs pitcher to throw a no-hitter was Edwin Jackson in Tampa Bay on June 25, 2010.

Thursday marked the 17th time in D-backs history that the starting pitcher threw at least six hitless innings, the first since Patrick Corbin in April of last year.
