LISTEN: Lon Babby- Suns president of basketball operations

A recent report by Basketball Insiders suggested that Archie Goodwin is frustrated with his role on the team and if it continues, “he might not be in Phoenix much longer.”

Phoenix Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby told Bickley and Marotta Thursday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM that’s not how Goodwin feels at all.

“We’ve talked to Archie and I think he is understanding of his situation, understanding he’s a young player and he’s continuing to grow,” Babby said. “Obviously he wants to play more, but any suggestion that he’s frustrated by our transactions or frustrated to the point where he’s not happy here, I don’t think is accurate and that’s certainly not what he’s expressed.”

The report was focused on Goodwin’s remarks on a trade bringing Reggie Bullock to Phoenix, adding another guard to a guard-heavy roster.

Goodwin is averaging 7.8 minutes in the 12 games he’s appeared in. Even if he appears in every game the rest of the regular season, he won’t match the mark of how many he played last season, his rookie year.

Babby said he met with Goodwin after the article came out and didn’t hear the same sentiment.

“He’s not at all unhappy in Phoenix or in his role or questioning transactions,” Babby said.

Bullock was drafted just ahead of Goodwin in the same class of 2013. He appeared in 25 games for the Los Angeles Clippers this season and played just over 10 minutes per game in those appearances.

“Every time we have an opportunity to get better, we’re going to do that and if that creates competition on our team then so be it,” Babby said. “I think the players appreciate that and I think Archie appreciates that.”
