Phoenix Rising FC midfielder Solomon Asante was named the USL Championship Player of the Month on Thursday after leading his team to five wins in June.
Asante scored seven goals and added four assists as the team went without a loss or tie.
He finished the month by scoring a goal on June 29 for his seventh straight match with a goal, setting a USL record with the streak.
“I’m very grateful and happy to be recognized by the league,” Asante said in a team release. “This is important to me and to the club and will help push me and my teammates to work harder today and the rest of the season. Now we’ll forget about what happened last month and we’re focusing on this month. Especially this Saturday.”
Phoenix Rising returns to action Saturday away from home against Rio Grande Valley FC. The 5:30 p.m. game will be available on TV at Your PHX CW, on the radio at ESPN 620 AM and streamed online at ArizonaSports.com.
Asante is not the only Phoenix Rising member to earn a nod from the league following a strong month of June. Phoenix head coach Rick Schantz was named the USL Coach of the Month for June earlier this week.
