Golic: Fitzgerald the trump card for Manning

Former NFL defensive tackle and co-host of ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning on Arizona Sports 620, Mike Golic has an adoration for the state of Arizona. But all personal opinions aside, Golic believes the Cardinals possess the one weapon that should make them clear-cut favorites to land Peyton Manning.
“I think the one thing that [could] break the tie for Arizona is Larry Fitzgerald,” Golic told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo Friday. “Again, that trumps just about everything any other team had.”
Golic said he was surprised the Indianapolis Colts decided to release Manning — a decision he thinks they may later regret.
“Listen, I think the Colts made the wong move,” Golic stated. “I think the Colts should have kept him and still drafted Andrew Luck and had them both because I still think he’s [Manning] going to play well.”
Manning is believed to be seriously considering the Cardinals and Miami Dolphins, among other select teams. Golic, who played a short tenure with the Dolphins during his NFL career, expressed concern over whether a quarterback of Manning’s stature would be happy playing in an apathetic market.
“Miami is probably, and I played in Miami for a year, it’s one of the worst sports town known to mankind,” Golic explained. “They’re awful.”
For Golic, he doesn’t think any team can offer Manning what Arizona can, and for that reason, he believes the four-time MVP would benefit from signing with the Cardinals.
“From a team wise, I would take Arizona,” Golic stated. “Again, Miami has Brandon Marshall who’s athletic and good, but Arizona has Larry Fitzgerald. I mean the conversation really ends there.”
Two of the NFL’s greats at their respective positions running an offense together in the desert would surely be a historic sight indeed.
