After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for April 17, 2011: Diamondbacks 6,
Giants 5
It was only one win, but the Diamondbacks showed some grit in their 6-5 win over the San Francisco Giants in 12 innings.
This is the kind of game the team would probably have lost last season for a couple of different reasons.
First, the team battled back after falling behind. Too many times last season the team quit too early in games after trailing.
Second, the bullpen held down the Giants offense for 6 & 2/3 innings only giving up one run.
This would never have happened last season as most teams stretched their lead on the D-backs when the bullpen came into games.
Today the bullpen gave the Diamondbacks a chance to claw their way back into the game and eventually win it.
The only real negative to come out of today’s game was another less than stellar effort from the starting rotation.
Barry Enright lasted 5 & 1/3 innings giving up four runs.
The D-backs need better effort from their starters, but for today the team showed they are better from last season in that they will never give up and their bullpen can keep them in games.
