PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have reinstated infielder Willie Bloomquist from the 15-day disabled list and selected infielder Sean Burroughs from Triple-A Reno, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers.

In corresponding moves, the D-backs designated right-handed pitcher Armando Galarraga for assignment and placed infielder Melvin Mora on the bereavement list.

Bloomquist, 33, was placed on the disabled list on April 25 with a strained right hamstring and missed 21 games. Prior to his stint on the disabled list, he posted a .306 average with 11 runs scored, 4 doubles, a home run and 7 RBI in 14 games with the D-backs.

He opened the season with a franchise-tying 10-game hitting streak and hit safely in 12 of his 14 games overall.

Burroughs, 30, posted a .386 average with 12 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 triples, a home run and 15 RBI in 27 games with the Aces.

Over parts of 5 Major League seasons with the San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays, he owned a .280 average (431-for-1537) with 179 runs scored, 63 doubles, 12 triples, 11 home runs and 134 RBI in 440 games.

Burroughs signed as a minor league free agent on Nov. 19, 2010 having not played professional baseball since June 2007. He originally signed with the Padres as their first-round pick (ninth overall) in the 1998 First-Year Player Draft.

Galarraga, 29, posted a 3-4 record and 5.91 ERA with 22 walks and 28 strikeouts in 8 starts with the D-backs. He led the Majors with 13 home runs allowed, while his ERA was fourth-highest.

Mora, 39, has posted a .262 average with 3 runs, 4 doubles and 11 RBI in 28 games with the D-backs.
