ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Matt Williams: ‘Why not us?’

May 24, 2011, 4:58 PM | Updated: 6:10 pm

The last time the Arizona Diamondbacks made the playoffs, in 2007, the team had a slogan. It was ‘Anywhere, Anytime’, a phrase which veteran first baseman Tony Clark coined to describe the team’s mentality. With this years incarnation showing signs of life, they may have their own mantra provided by a member of their coaching staff.

‘Why not us?’

That’s what third base coach, and former D-backs star, Matt Williams expressed on Tuesday morning.

“We’ve got to take care of the baseball,” Williams told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf. “We have to make sure that we take advantage of the opportunities given to us. But sure, why not us? A base hit here or a base hit there makes all the difference in the world. So far, over the last nine games, we’ve done pretty well. There is no reason we can’t continue that.”
