After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for May 30, 2011: Diamondbacks 15, Marlins 4
The Good:
We would hate to pitch against the D-backs tonight. Thankfully, the Marlins took that beating for us. The D-backs hauled in 15 runs on 19 hits. Kelly Johnson had two homers for the seventh time in his career, Miguel Montero had a three-run shot to left to make it five RBIs on the night – tying a career high – and the D-backs hit five total home runs, tying a season high set in Cincinnati on April 19.
The Bad:
Joe Saunders would have been doomed if not for the great run support he received on Monday. The starter gave up four earned runs in just 6 innings, throwing 93 pitches. At least he managed to strike out seven.
The Funky:
Kelly Johnson’s four extra-base hits were good enough to tie the D-backs franchise record. Monday was the eight time that has been achieved.
