PHOENIX – The 2011 MLB All-Star game will be played at Chase Field in July and it’s possible the local team could have some of its players in the game.
In the first release of the fan voting, shortstop Stephen Drew is currently in fifth place with 303,811 votes.
Drew trails leader Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies who has 975,777.
The D-backs’ shortstop is batting .285 with 29 RBI’s so far this season.
Justin Upton is in 10th place for outfielders with 338,487 votes.
The D-backs outfielder is hitting .261 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI’s.
Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun leads all outfielders with 971,809 votes.
There’s a decent chance that Arizona pitchers Ian Kennedy and J.J. Putz could also find their way to the All-Star game.
Kennedy is 6-1 with a 3.01 ERA and has established himself as the ace of the starting rotation.
Putz has been near perfect in the bullpen converting 16-for-16 in save chances with a sparkling 1.57 ERA.
While all four of these D-backs players probably won’t make it to the Midsummer Classic, you can probably bet if they continue to put up the same numbers that at least two or three will get to play in the All-Star game.
