D-backs president says team is looking to deal

Thursday morning Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported that sources were telling him the Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to add a ‘dominant reliever’ to their bullpen. We may now know who those sources likely were. The team themselves.
During an Internet chat with fans on Dbacks.com Thursday afternoon, team president Derrick Hall made it clear that his club will be looking to make a trade and and add bullpen depth.
“We have an interest in upgrading in a few areas, one of them being the bullpen,” Hall responded to a fan’s question. “As he has already proven this season, we can never have too many good arms in the bullpen. He would like to find one more reliable arm like we see late in games. This pen has made all the difference.”
Hall did make it clear that the team won’t make a deal if it could effect the rhythm the team has recently found.
“We are [looking at trades], but we have to be careful not to disrupt the chemistry while doing so,” he said. “I trust Kevin [Towers’] there. We are committing a great deal of money to this upcoming draft. This is an important one for us with two top 10 picks.”
It’s interesting that the D-backs are looking to add another arm in the pen. They’ve dramatically improved this season and the club seems to have deficiencies in other areas (see: starting rotation and third base). It’s even more interesting that their team president is willing to openly admit what they’re wanting to acquire in a trade.
With that said, adding another stellar arm that can solidify the seventh inning for the club can do nothing but help the D-backs in their pursuit of the NL West crown.
Whether they add a bullpen pitcher or any other player before the deadline, it’s a distinct sign that the franchise is still committed to improving the on field product. That’s something Hall seems to take great pride in.
“I credit our general manager and manager for the new culture and bringing in the right pieces. We will do more and will never sit idle. We want to win!”
