D-backs take Chafin with 43rd overall pick

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected left-handed pitcher Andrew Chafin out of Kent State with their 43rd overall draft pick on Monday.

The 6-foot 2-inch Chafin had an 8-1 record with a 2.02 ERA this season. He threw two complete game shutouts and 105 strikeouts while only walking 23 in 14 games. He started 12 of those games.

Chafin was selected as College Baseball Newspaper’s Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week for March 28 and was named a member of the 2011 All-MAC First Team.

In his college career, Chafin had a 12-2 record with a 1.80 ERA in 31 games. In 124.2 innings, he only gave up three home runs and struck out 160 batters.
