National writer thinks Gibson is manager of year

In his first full season as manager, Kirk Gibson is making headlines throughout the league.

Spring Training began with people questioning Gibson’s unique style and unparalleled intensity which was on display even during meaningless exhibition games.

Although the Diamondbacks are coming off a series loss to the San Francisco Giants, they are six games over .500 and only a game and a half back in the division.

The D-backs have outperformed expectations so far this season and everyone is taking notice including Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal who recently tweeted that Gibson is the frontrunner for the National League Manager of the Year.

My NL Mgr of Yr as of now: 1. Gibson. 2. Collins. 3. Hurdle. Honestly, I’d be cool with any of 3. #Marlins‘ E-Rod on list 3 wks ago. #MLGless than a minute ago via Twitter for Mac Favorite Retweet Reply

While it is still early in the season, if the D-Backs keep winning Gibson will continue to be a frontrunner for the award.

The Diamondbacks may not reach the playoffs this season, but being in contention after the all-star break would be a huge step for the franchise and a huge testament to the transformation that Gibson is leading.
