Is Curt Schilling implying the Arizona Diamondbacks championship is tainted?

Jul 7, 2011, 6:12 PM | Updated: 7:43 pm

Former major league pitcher and attention monger turned talking head, Curt Schilling, would like you to know no franchise who has won a championship in the last two decades has done it without the help of performance enhancers.

“Anybody who ever says performance-enhancing drugs didn’t help players produce offensive numbers is full of crap.” And with those numbers came championships that Schilling claims were tainted. “There isn’t a team in the last 20 years that has won clean.”

Wait, what?

Schilling was a member of three of those teams to win titles over the last 20 years, one of which occurred here in the Valley. Do his comments mean that somehow the Arizona Diamondbacks 2001 World Series victory is tainted?

If anyone had a clear idea of what was occurring in the D-backs clubhouse it probably would be Schilling but should we believe his assessment? He’s been known for saying things in an attempt to gain attention in the past and now that he’s paid for his opinions it’s hard to imagine he isn’t still doing the same.

If Schilling is right and PEDs did play a part in the D-backs win over the Yankees, would it really change anything? The World Series banner will still hang at Chase Field and the memories will still remain regardless of what may have been involved to win it.
